terms of use

this is a beta

xyz is unfinished and in open beta. anyone can make an account. things will break, features will change, and i may have to reset data while i am still building. i will tell you before i wipe anything on purpose.

your account is yours. pick a name the whole board can read, be decent to the people you meet, and please do not share the login.

going outside is on you

xyz sends you to real places in a real city. i do not check whether a place is safe, open, legal to enter, or right for you. use your judgment the same way you would if a friend mentioned a spot.

do not trespass, do not ignore posted rules or staff, do not go somewhere that feels wrong just because a quest suggested it. skip it, that is what the skip button is for. do not play while driving or cycling.

a quest is a suggestion, never an endorsement and never a promise about safety. you are responsible for your own safety and for anyone you bring with you.

no faking it

quests complete by actually being there. spoofing your location, scripting the app, or otherwise pretending to be somewhere you are not takes the one thing this game is built on and empties it.

if it happens, i may ask for more verification, undo points, or close the account. i would much rather never do any of that.

what you post

photos and captions are always optional and never worth points. what you post stays yours. by putting it in xyz you let me show it inside the app to people who can already see that part of your profile, and nowhere else.

do not post other people without their say so, and do not post anything illegal or designed to hurt someone. i can take down anything that breaks this.

coins and items

coins, xp, levels and items are parts of a game. they are not money, they have no cash value, they cannot be sold or moved between accounts, and i cannot refund them.

items in category colors are earned by exploring that category and are never for sale, at any price. that rule is the whole reason the colors mean anything.

ending it

you can stop whenever you like. email me and i will delete your account and what is attached to it.

i can close an account that is faking locations, harassing people, or breaking these terms. barring something serious, i will tell you why.

the boring but necessary part

xyz is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. i cannot promise it will be available, accurate, or bug free, and it is a beta so it will sometimes be none of those.

to the fullest extent the law allows, i am not liable for anything that happens to you or your things while using xyz, including anything that happens at a place a quest suggested. nothing here takes away rights you have that cannot be signed away.

these terms are governed by the laws of the state of new york.

changes

if i change these terms in a way that matters, i will say so in the app or by email before it takes effect. questions go to hiplstryxyz@gmail.com.
